Hawtsome Episode 014

In this episode of Hawtsome, Holden discusses the disingenuous approach many conservatives take on several of today's major political issues, including: Gun rights and regulations, banking regulation and state's exemptions, same sex marriage and equal rights, budget balancing, the drug war, and political sex scandals.

Additionally Holden points out how New York's governor is a bit late to the party on marriage equality, as Iowa has been there for the last three years.

A short episode concerning the death of Holden's cat how being an Atheist is often not easy, but necessary. Additionally Holden discusses skepticism and how woo or pseudoscience is harmful to our society and to the treatment of both people and animals. And how pseudoscience played a part in Steve Jobs treatment early in his diagnosis, which likely played a role in shortening of the life he had left.

In this episode Holden discusses the shooting of US Senator Gabby Giffords and 19 others (resulting in 6 deaths) in Arizona by Jared Loughner. Holden then takes note of some good advise Dan Savage gives a twenty year old college student that's interested in an older polyamorous couple, and gives some perspective of his own on the scenario.

Hawtsome Episode 011

On this episode of Hawtsome Holden discusses the upcoming American Atheists convention in Des Moines, and the controversy surrounding some of the advertising leading up to the event. Holden is planning to attend the conference, which will be held from April 21st-24th. Additional details about the conference can be found here: http://atheists.org/desmoines. Holden then offers his review of the 1982 movie "Summer Lovers" for it's portrayal of open relationships and polyamory.

In this episode Holden discusses the development of technology in relation to politics, and the fact that candidates of the future will have to contend with an entire video record of every embarrassing mistake they've ever made, how the media is currently giving candidates a pass on early life because of this, and a specific example of that issue in the form of Christine O'Donnell. Holden offers a short commentary on Apple and Foxconn and the pay of the workers that make the iPhone.
